I started making tools almost the same time I started using hand tools in my woodworking journey over twenty years ago. While learning to cut dovetail joints I needed a marking knife. At the time there were very few options available so I made my own. Fellow woodworkers expressed interest in them so I started hand making a few at a time to sell. Blue Spruce Toolworks was born as a part time hobby business. My personal chisel collection was quite limited and I wanted more refined chisels to create the fine dovetails I was partial to. I designed and started producing a few small dovetail chisels. That led to developing an innovative small mallet using infused resin technology.  Soon I left my engineering career to pursue building  Blue Spruce Toolworks into a premium handtool company. After almost fifteen years I sold the company to Woodpeckers, llc and continued to develop new tools for the Blue Spruce Toolworks brand for another three years. In May of 2023 I started a new company to explore other creative outlets. Tool design and manufacturing are still a focus but I also want to help others develop their dreams and ideas, help them bring their ideas to reality. That may include design and engineering consultation, prototype development, small batch production and overall guidance. I have long had a desire to design and make furniture. I want to explore materials and processes, explore design itself and ultimately apply my learning to making.
